The pattern

Plan geometry only. Burden is measured perpendicular to the face, spacing along it.
Row 1 is the row against the free face.
Staggered offsets alternate rows by half a spacing.
The direction the free face looks — the direction the shot is meant to move.
Used for the delay-window charge sum. An imported charge column overrides it.
Recorded on the schedule; it does not enter the timing arithmetic.

Initiation scheme

Nominal detonator times, built from the scheme and assigned hole by hole.
Between adjacent holes along a row.
Between the first hole of one row and the first of the next.
Added to the inter-row delay once per row, so the rows open up (or tighten) as the shot works back.
In-hole delay. It shifts every hole equally, so it changes no relief — but it carries the scatter that dominates a pyrotechnic shot.

Plan view and sweep

Grid north up. Press Play and the detonation front crosses the pattern in real proportion.

Burden relief

R = |∇t| in milliseconds per metre. Every published timing rule is written in this unit.

Charge per delay window

The safety-critical output. Vibration follows the largest mass detonating together, not the shot total.
Charges closer together than this are conventionally summed. 8 ms is the common convention; some regulators use 9 ms.
Used only to report the scaled distance this charge produces. Predicting a vibration level needs a site law — that is Celtic Charge Tremor.

Detonator scatter

Nominal times are a fiction. This is the shot as the detonators will actually fire it.
